Carpal Tunnel Release (CTR)

Carpal tunnel surgery, also called carpal tunnel release and carpal tunnel decompression, is a surgery in which the transverse carpal ligament is divided.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is pain and weakness in the hand that is caused by pressure on the median nerve in the wrist. Swelling around the nerve can pinch the nerve and cause pain. In this surgery, the ligament forming the top of the tunnel around the nerve is cut to make more space for the nerve and tendons, easing pressure on the nerve and usually improves pain and function.
